Basic Troubleshooting
Also known as "triaging windows". This course is designed for 1st and 2nd level support persons. It teaches them how to step through key components of the system such as CPU, Memory, Networks, and Disk in order to “triage” a system failure and figure out the correct data to gather. It shows the proper way to create a working timeline of the failure and plot events against it along with key data that is gathered. Participants will master tools like perfmon, taskmgr, tracert, ping, and netstat.
Course Objectives:
- Benefits of Structured Troubleshooting vs. Guessing
- Learn how Windows schedules threads to execute and profile ex-actly why a system is “slow”.
- Understand windows memory management and see how to analyze the different sections by processes and kernel
- Learn basic network I/O diagnostics to determine wireless or wired connectivity, firewall affects, and how to use tracert, ping, netstat, and perfmon.
- How to generate a memory dump to analyze process hangs

Diagnostic Tools for Support Professionals
This course is designed for 3rd-level support persons. It provides an in-depth look into how the windows operating system works, how to navigate around databases, key network infrastructure, and how core components such as TCP/IP, RPC, COM/DCOM work. COM apartments and message queues are laid out and analyzed in detail. Over 12 mainstream diagnostic tools are applied, taught, and used through hand-on labs that bring all the information to-gether.
Length is 253 color pages
